FOR INFORMATION ONLY Seeds: Start with 5 or 10 seeds and you will almost certainly get a few females. You may initially be worried if you only get one female but this is really no problem as it's possible to take cuttings from a mother plant (cloning). Using this process you can have as many female plants as you have space for! This is why we mostly sell mixed seeds - because we believe it's better value overall for you. Feminised seeds cost at least double mixed, and the end results are almost always the same if you simply have a little more patience. However, due to recent customer requests, we have now begun to sell feminised seeds, as you can see from the menu above. With these, a full batch of female plants is virtually guaranteed. Ideal for those serious about their harvests! Germination: Put the seeds in the soil about 1/4" down. Water well and put a see-through plastic bag over the top. Use an elastic band to attach the bottom of the bag to the pot and so that no moisture is able to escape. What you are effectively doing is creating your own mini-greenhouse. Be sure to make a couple of small holes so that there is a little circulation. When you see the seeds come up - which will take 1-10 days - wait a couple of days, and then take the bag off the top. Although it is not completely necessary to have one seed per pot, it will save a lot of time and effort later on if you don't have to transfer the plants to new pots. Transferring plants can also be risky with seedlings. They will be very fragile for the first couple of weeks. Conditions: If possible keep room tempeture above 18c. If you have flourescent lights you should hang them about 4" above the seedlings and when they are a few inches tall you can lower it to 2" above (if they are not heat-producing). Suspend your light by rope or chains so that you can lower and raise them easily. You can leave the lights on all the time or set the timer for 18 hours on and 6 hours off. It is important to get the right amount of moisture to the plants. If the plants have too much water (water-logged) no oxygen will get to the roots and they will rot. Therefore, don't allow your plants to just sit in water. Obviously, also, they are not cacti and will quickly die out if they dry. The best way to water your plants will be to water (enough just to see it begin to seep out of the bottom of the pot), then wait until the top of the soil begins to dry out before watering again. This way, a good mixture of air and moisture will penetrate to the root system. Lights: Incandescent lights are inefficient (especially the screw-in "grow bulb" type) and really not an acceptable option for plant growth. Although they are inexpensive to purchase, their cost of operation makes them the costliest source of light. Try to have 50 watts per square foot. Remember more light is more yield in the end! You'll need a timer for the lights and maybe a moisture meter to check out humidity. During the first few months of its life, keep the light on 24hrs a day, or periods close to this. Budding: You can control when to bring plants into their flowering period (where the results come from - budding) by simply changing the timer to 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark. Soil: The next thing to consider is soil. Go to the best garden supply store and ask for the best soil they have so you can grow the infamous "tomato" indoors. Potting soil is good but may be too heavy. Get a bag of potting soil and mix it with equal parts of sand or perlite. Almost any potting soil will do but avoid those that have clay in them. Fill up the containers almost to the top with soil. Fertiliser is important if you want to grow marijuana indoors. The well advertised (in the UK anyway) "Miracle Grow" will be quite sufficient. Follow the directions and try not to over-fertilize your plants during the early stages of its life. Remember that soil - unless it has been extensively used before - will contain plenty of the nutrient the young plants will need. It will be later on, when your plants become very large that fertilizer will give them a boost. Caution! The 2 most common problems are over-fertilising and over-watering for beginners. Containers: The containers should be anywhere from 1 to 6 gallons, so the root system gets all the space it needs. So why not use big containers if possible just to make sure? Use containers that have holes in the bottom - this is essential so that your soil can drain, avoiding the possibility of the roots rotting. Use clean containers. It is also probably better (and cheaper) to use plastic pots rather than ceramic. Clay pots let water evaporate from the sides of the pots, as they are porous, as well as from the holes at the bottom. Therefore, they will be more likely to let your plants dry out too much. With plastic pots (or even glass!) it will be easier to judge the effects your watering is having on the plants. Cloning: When the plant is above three feet high make a clean cut just above the fourth or fifth leaf branch ~ this will allow the mother to sprout new growths ~ usually two in fact. Take the cutting and place in room temperature water so that it doesn't dry out. Roots should begin to appear within a week or two. Then (very) carefully transport to a pot of its own and continue as with the mother! Make sure that you watch the cutting at the base where you made the cut. If it begins to get soft and turn a darker colour then it's beginning to rot. If this happens, take your cutting, cut off the rotten part, and try again. It is probably a good idea of allow a substantial root system to develop while they're still in water before transferring to a pot. It may not happen, but it's possible that some of the roots will be damaged during the transfer. So better to be safe than sorry! This process is repeatable indefinitely. If you take at least one cutting from each plant as it grows it is theoretically possible to keep growing cannabis forever from only one seed!!! Males and Females: It is the white and orange hairs that distinguish the female cannabis plant from its male counter-part. During the flowering stage the female plant produces pollen sacks that also help distinguish it from the male. The male part of the plant is known as hemp and it can't be used to get high. If you have a mixture of plants growing, be sure to remove the males before the females flower. If you don't the females will become germinated and won't produce the extensive system of buds that you're after! Final Note: Good luck to you all! Thanks for reading...
